A Day in the Asylum

I borrowed Arkham Asylum last week but was still puzzling my through Braid, today though I finally started playing.

So far I'm impressed by the looks and it's certainly a game that benefits hugely from not being tied into a movie licence.

Batman is by definition a cool character and this is a kind of mash up of the Batman from the movies, all dark and broody and the Arkham Asylum comic book, messed up story and even more messed up Joker.  Whether it pulls off the brilliance of that story remains to be seen, I'm guessing I'm about a third of the way through and it's shown some promise on that front with genuinely creepy segment with Scarecrow.

Combat is solid enough with nice array of combos and Batman plays like he should with some great stealth take downs etc but he is just way too buff.  Seriously, this is brick shit house Batman and it just doesn't work.  Bit of sinew is fine but there's no way this Batman could pull on a suit and play the playboy, as Bruce Wayne.  Other than that though, graphically, it's game porn.

I should have a full review up for you by next weekend.
