I can't remember what started first, I just know they both started on the same day. Which looking back at it now is rather fitting as this 'place' has become as much a part of my twitter account as it is a place for me to write.
I had no expectations of blogging, had no idea how it would evolve and looking back at my first post, from a year ago today, it's hard to believe that it's become such a huge part of my life. It reads like a facebook status update, which I guess at the time was about the only thing I was typing on a regular basis.
It's impossible to talk about one without the other because without twitter I don't think Diary of a Ledger would have survived very long. Both have changed me, but as much as I love doing this, twitter has been the what has pushed me to continue writing here.
Why did I join twitter? I'd heard about it in the media and knew that a few celebs were doing it but it wasn't until a friend on facebook announced that they were leaving facebook to join it that I had a reason to sign up. Thanks @WH1SKS. So I signed up and those early days I felt weirdly nervous tweeting strangers, now it doesn't faze me at all.
The media tries hard to pigeon hole it but it's nigh on impossible because people use it in so many different ways. Some are there to make people laugh, some are there to promote their talents, some just point out interesting links, some rant about the things they care about and the list goes on and on. Many people do all of these things and more.
To me twitter is a place. It isn't a website and it can't be put in a box with a nice neat label. Obviously it is a website but it feels tangible some how and a real reflection of life. I admire peoples honesty and I also enjoy the funny people and the ranters but most of all the amazing amount of creativity that it has opened me up to has been such a discovery, much of which I've been fortunate enough to be able share with you on here.
Honestly if you're here because you saw the link on facebook to this post, join twitter. It isn't what you think it is.
I don't really know where Diary of a Ledger will end up going. Having regular stuff that I know I'm going to be doing, whether that's the Icon Post or the new twitterviews, that hopefully people enjoy reading, is hugely motivational for me. I can't remember ever being this dedicated to anything. Ever. (Not sure what that says about me really...) Hopefully year two will see more evolution although I'm pretty happy with how the blog looks now. When I think about how it looked to start with... YIKES!
Where twitter goes next is anyone's guess. Personally I don't think it needs to change at all.
Thank you to everyone that pays me a visit here. Every hit makes me want to write something new the following day and a huge thank you to twitter because without you guys this would never have been much fun at all.
Cheers everyone.
Gray.
Oh and for those of you checking my joining date on twitter and thinking something ain't right. Check my old account @gray333. That's where it all started.
